The news of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting has gutted Americans nation wide. When I heard the terrible news I was in Google class on Friday. I couldn't believe what I had just heard. The thought that 20 children had their lives so brutally stolen from them gave me a pit in my stomach. To us, children represent innocence, happiness, and purity. On this sullen day, the innocence and purity of the children who survived the attack was stolen from them just as the lives of their classmates were. Just as our President said, they had their whole lives ahead of them. Parents of children who survived spoke to news reporters about the fact that the attack didn't feel real. I think we can all related to this feeling. When something so horrible happens to a community like this, it's hard for us to accept it as reality. But the harrowing truth of such things must eventually be accepted. This event has raised controversy all over the nation. People are scared their precious guns will be taken away from them and people are afraid something like this could happen to them. The hardest part to accept is that this could happen to anyone. And it is a tragedy but preventing it can be hard to do. 9/11, for example, shocked America when we were attacked in our home. Airport security was raised tremendously, decreasing chance of something like that happening ever again. The grim reality, though, is that a person with a cause is something that can't be detected under metal detectors. Just as a boy with a mission to commit a school massacre can't be detected.
